Hebrews 4:1 Let us fear therefore, lest haply, a promise being left of entering into his rest, any one of you should seem to have come short of it.

- Hebrews 4:9,11 There remaineth therefore a sabbath rest for the people of God.... Let us therefore give diligence to enter into that rest, that no man fall after the same example of disobedience.
Hebrews 4:2 For indeed we have had good tidings preached unto us, even as also they: but the word of hearing did not profit them, because it was not united by faith with them that heard.

- Hebrews 11:6 and without faith it is impossible to be well-pleasing unto him ; for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that seek after him.
Hebrews 4:3 As I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest: For we who have believed do enter into that rest; even as he hath said, although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.

- Psalm 95:7 For he is our God, And we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. oh that ye would hear his voice! 8 Harden not your heart, as at Meribah, Massah in the wilderness;
- This is where Jehovah sentenced them to 40 years in the wilderness because of their unbelief.
- Hebrews 3:7-8,15-16 To-day if ye shall hear his voice, Wherefore, even as the Holy Spirit saith, 8 Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, Like as in the day of the trial in the wilderness,... 15 To-day if ye shall hear his voice, Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation. while it is said, 16 For who, when they heard, did provoke? nay, did not all they that came out of Egypt by Moses?
Hebrews 4:8 For if Joshua had given them rest, he would not have spoken afterward of another day.
Context for verse 8
- "Joshua" and "Jesus" are interchangeable names (same Hebrew word).
- Deuteronomy 12:9 for ye are not as yet come to the rest and to the inheritance, which Jehovah thy God giveth thee.
- Joshua 22:4 And now Jehovah your God hath given rest unto your brethren, as he spake unto them: therefore now turn ye, and get you unto your tents, unto the land of your possession, which Moses the servant of Jehovah gave you beyond the Jordan.
- Acts 7:45 Which also our fathers, in their turn, brought in with Joshua when they entered on the possession of the nations, that God thrust out before the face of our fathers, unto the days of David;
Hebrews 4:9-10 There remaineth therefore a sabbath rest for the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest hath himself also rested from his works, as God did from his.

Hebrews 4:11-12 Let us therefore give diligence to enter into that rest, that no man fall after the same example of disobedience. For the word of God is living, and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and quick to discern the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Hebrews 4:14-16 Having then a great high priest, who hath passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we have not a high priest that cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but one that hath been in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore draw near with boldness unto the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy, and may find grace to help us in time of need.
