Putting On the Robe of Christ's Righteousness

God offers us Christ’s righteousness as a covering for our sin. Through faith in Jesus, we are spiritually clothed in His perfect righteousness.

📖 Isaiah 61:10 I am overwhelmed with joy in the Lord my God! For he has dressed me with the clothing of salvation and draped me in a robe of righteousness. I am like a bridegroom dressed for his wedding or a bride with her jewels.

I. The Need for a Covering (Our Sinful Condition)

Text: Romans 3:23 ... all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

Adam and Eve’s immediate response to sin was to try to cover themselves (Genesis 3:7-10).
Isaiah 64:6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
Without a divine covering, we are spiritually exposed.

Illustration: Imagine someone showing up to a royal banquet in rags — completely unfit for the occasion.

II. God's Provision: The Robe of Christ's Righteousness

Text: Zechariah 3:3-4 Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and was standing before the angel. 4 And he{the angel} answered and spoke unto those that stood before him, saying, Take the filthy garments off of him. To him he said, "Behold, I have taken away your sins, and I will clothe you with rich clothing.

Jesus lived the perfect life we couldn’t live.
His righteousness is imputed to us by faith ( Philippians 3:9 ).
This is not earned — it’s a gift ( Romans 5:17 ).

Main Point: The robe of righteousness is not stitched by human effort — it is provided by God.

III. Receiving the Robe: By Faith, Not Works

Text: Galatians 3:27 – “For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.”

Faith is the hand that receives the robe.
Baptism is an outward sign of being clothed in Christ.
It’s a daily decision to put on Christ ( Romans 13:14 ).

Application Question: Are you trying to earn righteousness, or have you received it as a gift?

IV. Living Clothed in Christ: A Call to Holy Living

Text: Ephesians 4:22-24 – “Put off your old self… put on the new self.”

Sanctification is the ongoing "wearing" of Christ’s character.
Righteousness is not just positional — it produces transformation.
Our lives should reflect the beauty of the robe we’ve been given.

Text: Revelation 19:7-8 – “Fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints.”

V. Final Encouragement: Rejoice in Your New Identity

Text: Isaiah 61:10 – “I will greatly rejoice in the Lord…”

Don’t let shame define you — Christ’s robe covers it all.
Celebrate your new identity.
Live in freedom and gratitude.

Conclusion:

We all come to God spiritually naked and stained. But in His mercy, He covers us with the robe of His Son — perfectly white, eternally secure.
