Word Study: parákletos (Greek)

From Strong's Greek Dictionary G3875: παράκλητος parákletos, par-ak'-lay-tos; an intercessor, consoler. KJV Translation(s):--advocate, comforter. The KJV NT Used G3875 5 Times

Note above that one definition of parákletos is intercessor. So, according to the Bible, who is our intercessor

Romans 8:34 ... It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.

Hebrews 7:25 Wherefore he[Jesus vs.22] is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

The Bible is clear that Jesus is our intercessor.

Note above that one of the KJV translations of parákletos is advocate("one who pleads the cause of another"). So, according to the Bible, who is our advocate?

1 John 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you that ye may not sin. And if any man sin, we have an Advocate(parákletos) with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

John is clear that Jesus is our Advocate(parákletos) .

The Greek word parákletos occurs in the Bible in only the following five verses:

  1. John 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you [állos] [parákletos], that he may abide with you for ever;
  2. John 14:26 But the [parákletos], which is the Holy Ghost[pneûma], whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
  3. John 15:26 But when the [parákletos], is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:
  4. John 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the [parákletos], will not come unto you; but if I depart, will send him unto you.
  5. 1 John 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an [parákletos], with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: -John

So, who is the parákletos? "Jesus Christ", according to John(1Jn2:1). What else do we know about the parákletos? In the KJV, it is translated both "Comforter" and "Advocate". We also know the Comforter(parákletos =>Jesus Christ) is "the Spirit of truth" and "the Holy Ghost", according to Jesus(Jn14:26;15:26), as shown above. Jesus is the Comforterthe Spirit of truth and the Holy Ghost.

John 14:6 ... no man cometh unto the Father, but by me . -Jesus

1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God[identified by Paul in 1Cor8:6], and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; -Paul

Desiring to live by every word that comes from the mouth of Jehovah (Deut8:3; Matt4:4)
