Omnipresence
(Everywhere Present)
Psalm 139:7-10: "Where can I go from your[Jehovah's(vs1,4)] Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast."
- From this we know that no matter where we are, we have access to God. But, how is it that we have access to God the Father?
John 14:6-26 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. ... 16 And I[Jesus] will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter{Greek: paráklētos}, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
- Who wants to be "in you"? Paul answers in Colossians 1:24-28 ... 26 the mystery which has been hidden for ages and generations. But now it has been revealed to his saints, 27 to whom God was pleased to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory; 28 whom we proclaim, admonishing every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus;
John 14:18-26 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you... 26 But the Comforter{Greek: paráklētos}, which is the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
1 John 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate{Greek: paráklētos} with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
- From the above texts we see that our only access to God the Father is through His only-born Son, Jesus, the Christ(Messiah) and that He is "truth" and that His Spirit("the Spirit of truth") is the Comforter, paráklētos in Greek. We also see that the paráklētos is Jesus, the Messiah, according to John. We also see that the Comforter is "the Holy Spirit", according to Jesus.
- I think it important to understand that the words "Holy" and "Spirit" used together in the Bible is not a proper name, as many claim, but rather each of those words are descriptive. You can see that in both the Hebrew and the Greek. So, why is this "Spirit" "holy"? it is because it is the mind/words of the most-Holy Father of Christ, as we will soon see...
- We know that the spirit of Jesus is the Holy Spirit and that this is how it is that He could say, "I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you." No one else can say this because, as Jesus said, "no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." Paul gives further clarity on this when he said in 1 Timothy 2:5, "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;" "Advocate" and "mediator" have similar meanings in the English language.
- But, what is the spirit of Jesus and where does it come from? As we see below, Jesus, in Jn6:63 said that the words that the He speaks are spirit. In Jn3:34, John the baptist said that the words that Jesus speaks are the words of His Father, which is the spirit.
John 3:34 For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him. 35 The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.
- Notice how "the words of God" are equated with "the Spirit"? If this isn't clear enough, look what Jesus and Peter say below:
John 6:63 It is the spirit that giveth life; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I have spoken unto you are spirit, and are life.
John 6:68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.
- Here, we saw that the words of Jesus are the spirit and these are the "the words of eternal life". But how is it that His words are eternal life? When we look at John 6, verses 54 and 63 together, we see Jesus saying that whoever eats His words, which came from His mind, which came from His Father, will have eternal life. Just as we assimilate quality food to make us physically healthy, so we should assimilate the words of Jesus into our minds in order to be mentally and spiritually healthy.
John 6:54-63 He that eateth my flesh and drinketh my blood hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. ... 63 It is the spirit that giveth life; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I have spoken unto you are spirit, and are life.
- So, according to Jesus, as we "eat" His words, we receive eternal life. Perhaps this is why in Philippians 2:5, Paul said, "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus". Where do our words come from? Our mind. So, we want the mind of Christ/Father so that we will speak His words of eternal life.
- Now, let's go back to our first verse and then apply what we've learned, so far:
Psalm 139:7-10: "Where can I go from your[Jehovah's(vs1,4)] Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast."
- From what we've learned so far, we can say that the spirit/words of Father Jehovah, given to His Son without measure(limit) is omnipresent(everywhere present). But, how can it be everywhere present?
Genesis 28:10-13 And Jacob went out from Beer-sheba, and went toward Haran. 11 And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took one of the stones of the place, and put it under his head, and lay down in that place to sleep. 12 And he dreamed; and behold, a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven; and behold, the angels of God ascending and descending on it. 13 And, behold, Jehovah stood above it, and said, I am Jehovah, the God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac...
John 1:51 And he[Jesus] saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye shall see the heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.
- This is why no one comes to the Father, except through Jesus. He is the ladder. This is how "our Father, which art in Heaven"( Mt6:9;Lk11:2 ) communicates with humans. Through Jesus, the angels carry messages between the Father and us:
Hebrews 1:14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?
- Here is another example:
Revelation 1:1-3 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him[Jesus], to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and [Jesus] signified it by his angel unto his servant John: 2 Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw. 3 Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.
- Notice the path of communication: Father Jehovah => Jesus => angel => John => human(s). When we pray to "our Father which art in Heaven", it is the same path: The angels take our prayers to Father, on Jesus, the Ladder.
1 Peter 1:10-11 Concerning this salvation, the prophets sought and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that would come to you, 11 searching for who or what kind of time the Spirit of Christ[His mind/words], which was in them, pointed to, when he predicted the sufferings of Christ, and the glories that would follow them.
Luke 21:33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will by no means pass away. -Jesus
So, it was the Spirit(words from His mind) of Jesus who inspired all the prophets( 1Pet1:10-11 ) of the Bible. So, when we share Scripture from the Bible, those who hear or read what we share are receiving the "Holy Spirit"(words from the mind of God) from us also.
It is interesting to note the phrase "Holy Spirit" is not in the book Revelation at all - only Father, Son, angels and humans. Same with the vision of Jacob's ladder.
For what it is worth, this is what SDA pioneers believed => that God is "everywhere present by his representative, the Holy Spirit." More on that here => http://sidnash.org/?PBM
But what about the evil angels?
1 John 4:1-6 Beloved, don't believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit who confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, 3 and every spirit who doesn't confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God, and this is the spirit of the Antichrist, of whom you have heard that it comes. Now it is in the world already. 4 You are of God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world. 5 They are of the world. Therefore they speak of the world, and the world hears them. 6 We are of God. He who knows God listens to us. He who is not of God doesn't listen to us. By this we know the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
- By this we know that there are two competing spirits on this planet:
- The "spirit of truth" from Jesus and His Father - their words, often brought to us by their holy angels.
- The "spirit of error" from satan - his words, often brought to us by his evil angels.
1 Peter 5:8 Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Isaiah 8:20 Look to God’s instructions and teachings! People who contradict his word are completely in the dark.
Desiring to live by every word that comes from the mouth of Jehovah ( Deut8:3; Matt4:4 )
