Integrity

The quality of being honest and fair, with firm adherence to moral values

What is INTEGRITY?

Here are some synonyms that may help: "honesty," "faithfulness," "sincerity," and "innocence."

INTEGRITY means having a mind free of dishonesty and deception.

INTEGITY comes from the word "integrate."

INTEGITY is the ability to integrate our belief system into our daily actions.

INTEGITY comes as a result of making a decision to live according to our belief system – to practice what we “preach”.

The Bible says, in Proverbs 10:9, “People with integrity walk safely, but those who follow crooked paths will slip and fall.”

People of integrity...

  1. recognize their own brokenness and the awesome power of God, thus becoming submissive to Him.

    1. Consider Peter, as he realizes the power of Jesus, he falls to his knees and says, “Go away from me Lord, for I am a sinful man!” ( Luke 5:8 )

    2. John is so overwhelmed (seeing Jesus in glory) he fell at His feet as though dead ( Rev. 1:17 ).

    3. Saul is blinded by the glory of Jesus on the road to Damascus and says, “Lord, what would you have me to do?”( Acts 9:4-6 )

    4. When Moses heard the voice of God in the burning bush, he covered his face because he was afraid… ( Exodus 3:6 )

    5. Joshua fell with his face to the ground in reverence when he met the commander of the army of the Lord ( Joshua 5:14 )

    6. After his dream of a stairway to heaven, Jacob was afraid and said “What an awesome place this is!” ( Genesis 28:17 )

    7. When Gideon realized he was speaking to an angel, he cried out, “Oh, Sovereign Lord, I’m doomed I have seen the angel of the Lord face to face!” ( Judges 6:22 ).

    8. Isaiah cried, “Woe to me! I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips… my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.” ( Isaiah 6:1-5 )

    9. All these, and many more, were overwhelmed and humbled by the awe-inspiring holiness of God – they fell on the ROCK and were broken ( Mt. 21:44 ) – they surrendered their will to God.

  2. are tested – Job…

    1. Job 1:6-22 – First Test

    2. Job 2:1-10 – Second Test

    3. Job 27:2-6 – Job’s final speech

  4. have a humble spirit – Samuel…

    1. 1 Samuel 12:1-3 – Samuel’s Farewell Address

    2. 1 Samuel 12:4-5 – Israel acknowledges Samuel’s integrity

  5. are men of God: 1 Samuel 13:14 – A man after God’s own heart

  6. do the right thing. 1 Samuel 24:3-7 – David could have killed Saul…

  7. sometimes make mistakes ( 2 Samuel 11:1-27 )

  11. …, in all situations, are honest and fair. “[Father Jehovah] grants a treasure of common sense to the honest. He is a shield to those who walk with integrity. Men of integrity walk safely, but those who follow crooked paths will slip and fall. The way of the Lord is a stronghold to those with integrity, but it destroys the wicked. The Lord detests people with crooked hearts, but he delights in those with integrity” (Proverbs 2:7; 10:9,29; 11:20).
