"I AND MY FATHER ARE ONE"(Jesus, John 10:30 )
Later, Jesus explains further in chapter 17
John 17:11,20-23 And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are. ... Neither for these only do I pray, but for them also that believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.
Here we see that we can be one with Father and Son, just as they are one. Does that make us to be Gods? Of course not! However, Peter did say we can be partakers of the Divine nature:
2 Peter 1:2-11 Grace to you and peace be multiplied in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord; 3 seeing that his{God's} divine{Greek: "θεῖος theîos, thi'-os"} power hath granted unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that called us by his own glory and virtue; 4 whereby he{God} hath granted unto us his precious and exceeding great promises; that through these ye may become partakers of the divine{Greek: "θεῖος theîos, thi'-os"} nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world by lust. 5 Yea, and for this very cause adding on your part all diligence, in your faith supply virtue; and in your virtue knowledge; 6 and in your knowledge self-control; and in your self-control patience; and in your patience godliness; 7 and in your godliness brotherly kindness; and in your brotherly kindness love. 8 For if these things are yours and abound, they make you to be not idle nor unfruitful unto the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 For he that lacketh these things is blind, seeing only what is near, having forgotten the cleansing from his old sins. 10 Wherefore, brethren, give the more diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never stumble: 11 for thus shall be richly supplied unto you the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Translated "divine", notice that Peter used the Greek word "theîos" twice. Strong's Concordance defines this word as "godlike". "theîos" is only used in one other place in the Bible:
Acts 17:29 Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead{Greek: "θεῖος theîos, thi'-os"} is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device. (Paul)
Yes, that's right, we too can be partakers of "theîos", translated both as "divine" and as "Godhead". Does that make us to be Gods? Of course not! But, it does show us that, according to the Bible, the popular understanding of the word "Godhead" is absolutely FALSE.
We find something similar in Hebrews:
Hebrews 12:8-10 But if ye are without chastening, whereof all have been made partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. 9 Furthermore, we had the fathers of our flesh to chasten us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? 10 For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed good to them; but he for our profit, that we may be partakers of his holiness.
Perhaps this is why Peter, quoting Jehovah, said, "be ye yourselves also holy":
1 Peter 1:15 but like as he who called you is holy, be ye yourselves also holy in all manner of living; 16 because it is written, Ye shall be holy; for I am holy.
Leviticus 11:44 For I am Jehovah your God: sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy; for I am holy...
Leviticus 20:7 Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy; for I am Jehovah your God.
Desiring to live by every word that comes from the mouth of Jehovah ( Deut8:3; Matt4:4 )
