Galatians Chapter 6
For the context for Galatians 6, let's look at Paul's summary for chapter 5:
Galatians 5:25-26 Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives. 26 Let us not become conceited, or provoke one another, or be jealous of one another.
Galatians 6:1 Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself.
2 Thessalonians 3:15 Don’t count him as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.
2 Timothy 2:25 in gentleness correcting those who oppose him. Perhaps God may give them repentance leading to a full knowledge of the truth,
James 5:19-20 Brothers, if any among you wanders from the truth and someone turns him back, 20 let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.
Jude 1:22-23 On some have compassion, making a distinction, 23 and some save, snatching them out of the fire with fear, hating even the clothing stained by the flesh.
Galatians 6:2-3 Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ. 3 If you think you are too important to help someone, you are only fooling yourself. You are not that important.
Galatians 5:13-14 For you, brothers, were called for freedom. Only don’t use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love be servants to one another. 14 For the whole law is fulfilled in one word, in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”{ Leviticus 19:18 }
John 15:12 This is my commandment, that you love one another, even as I have loved you. {good advice from Jesus}
Example => Exodus 23:5 If you see the donkey of him who hates you fallen down under his burden, don’t leave him. You shall surely help him with it.
Galatians 6:4-5 Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else. 5 For we are each responsible for our own conduct.
In other words => Mind your own business :-)
Romans 14:12 So then each one of us will give account of himself to God.
Galatians 6:6 Those who are taught the word of God should provide for their teachers, sharing all good things with them.
1 Timothy 5:17-18 Elders who do their work well should be respected and paid well, especially those who work hard at both preaching and teaching. 18 For the Scripture says, “You must not muzzle an ox to keep it from eating as it treads out the grain.” And in another place, “Those who work deserve their pay!”
Galatians 6:7 Don’t be deceived. God is not mocked, for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.
2 Corinthians 9:6 Remember this: he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly. He who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.
Hosea 10:12 Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap according to kindness. Break up your fallow ground, for it is time to seek Jehovah, until he comes and rains righteousness on you.
Galatians 6:8 Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit.
James 3:18 Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.
Romans 8:13 For if you live after the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
Galatians 6:9-10 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. 10 So then, as we have opportunity, let’s do what is good toward all men, and especially toward those who are of the household of the faith.
1 Corinthians 15:58 Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the Lord’s work, because you know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.
Matthew 25:40 “The King will answer them, ‘Most certainly I tell you, because you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’
Galatians 6:11-13 See with what large letters I write to you with my own hand. 12 Those who are trying to force you to be circumcised want to look good to others. They don’t want to be persecuted for teaching that the cross of Christ alone can save. 13 For even they who receive circumcision don’t keep the law themselves, but they desire to have you circumcised, so that they may boast in your flesh.
Philippians 3:3 For we are the circumcision, who worship God in the Spirit. We rely on what Messiah Yeshua has done for us. We put no confidence in human effort,
Galatians 6:14 As for me, may I never boast about anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. Because of that cross, my interest in this world has been crucified, and the world’s interest in me has also died.
Galatians 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
Romans 6:6 We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin.
Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes—the Jew first and also the Gentile.
Galatians 6:15-16 It doesn’t matter whether we have been circumcised or not. What counts is whether we have been transformed into a new creation. 16 And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God.
Galatians 5:6 For in Messiah Yeshua neither circumcision nor uncircumcision amounts to anything, but faith working through love.
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if anyone is in Messiah, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new.
Galatians 3:29 If you are Messiah’s, then you are Abraham’s offspring and heirs according to promise.
Galatians 6:17 From now on, let no one cause me any trouble, for I bear the marks of the Lord Yeshua branded on my body.
2 Corinthians 1:5 For as the sufferings of Messiah abound to us, even so our comfort also abounds through Messiah.
Colossians 1:24 Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and fill up on my part that which is lacking of the afflictions of Messiah in my flesh for his body’s sake, which is the assembly,
Galatians 6:18 The grace of our Lord Yeshua the Messiah be with your spirit, brothers. Amen.
Notice that Paul mentions "your spirit". How is it that our Messiah is with our spirit? Remember that Jesus said that his words/teaching is spirit( Jn6:63 ). And where do the words of Jesus come from? His words and our words come from our mind. So, where is our spirit? It is in our mind. How is Messiah/Christ with our mind? Several ways, I'm sure, but here are two ways that I'm aware of =>
-
- Jesus is with our mind when we dwell on His teachings - assimilating them into our mind.
- Jesus is with us as He speaks to us through His holy angels. They speak through our conscience in our minds. But, be careful because satan's angels do that also. Remember Isaiah 8:20 "To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word{the Holy Bible}, it is because there is no light in them." I choose to judge all spirits/teachings by what the Bible says.
Another conclusion by Paul => Romans 16:19-20 ... I rejoice therefore over you. But I desire to have you wise in that which is good, but innocent in that which is evil. 20 And the God of peace will quickly crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Yeshua the Messiah be with you.
My Summary of the Book of Galatians
Since some were trying to convince the Galatians to be circumcised, we know that they were not Jews. Otherwise, they would have already been circumcised. Since they were Gentiles(non-Jew), we also know that some were drawing these converts of Galatia back into their old ways of observing pagan holidays.
Paul's message to the Galatians seems to be the same as his message to the Romans. At the heart of his message was the the thought that it is our faith in the cross of Messiah that gives us victory over the temptations of the enemy and which brings us salvation. In opposition to this, the Galatians seemed to be trying to keep the law in order to be saved. This was referred to as "the works of the flesh" and was likened to Abraham's work of his flesh to conceive a son by Hagar(the slave woman), rather than having faith in the promise of Jehovah to give him a son by Sarah(the free woman).
What does this mean for us? Three points =>
- By our own willpower(works) it is impossible for us to keep the law. Why? Because all have sinned( Rom3:23 ) and the wages of sin is death( Rom6:23 ). So, "death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned"( Rom5:12 ). Trying to do the right works without faith will not save us. We will die for our sins.
- It doesn’t matter whether we have been circumcised or not. It doesn't matter whether we are Jew or not. It doesn't matter whether male or female or slave or free( Gal3:28;5:6;6:15; ).
- What counts is whether we have been transformed by faith into a new creation.( Gal6:15 ). Like Paul, we should declare => "I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me." This is the faith that saves us: death to self(flesh) and alive to doing the will of our Messiah, who's teachings dwell in our minds. For we can do all things through Christ who gives us strength( Php4:13 ).
Desiring to live by every word that comes from the mouth of Jehovah ( Deut8:3; Matt4:4 )
