Ephesians Chapters 5 & 6

About Our Behavior

Ephesians 5:1 Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children.

Ephesians 5:2 Live a life filled with love, following the example of Messiah. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.

Ephesians 5:3 Let there be no sexual immorality, impurity, or greed among you. Such sins have no place among God’s people.

Ephesians 5:4 Obscene stories, foolish talk, and coarse jokes—these are not for you. Instead, let there be thankfulness to God.

Ephesians 5:5 You can be sure that no immoral, impure, or greedy person will inherit the Kingdom of Messiah and of God. For a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world.

Ephesians 5:6-7 Don’t be fooled by those who try to excuse these sins, for the anger of God will fall on all who disobey him. 7 Don’t participate in the things these people do.

Ephesians 5:8-10 For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light! 9 for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth. 10 Carefully determine what pleases the Lord.

Ephesians 5:11-14 Have no fellowship with the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but rather even reprove them. 12 For it is a shame even to speak of the things which are done by them in secret. 13 But their evil intentions will be exposed when the light shines on them, 14 for the light makes everything visible. This is why it is said, “Awake, O sleeper, rise up from the dead, and Christ will give you light.”( Isaiah 60:1 )

Ephesians 5:15-16 Therefore watch carefully how you walk, not as the foolish, but as wise, 16 Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days.

Ephesians 5:17 Therefore, don’t be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

Ephesians 5:18 Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Spirit{of God}, (rather than with the evil spirits of strong drink)

Ephesians 5:19 {be filled with the Spirit,(verse 18)} singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts.

Ephesians 5:20-21 And give thanks always concerning all things in the name of our Lord Yeshua the Messiah to God, the Father; 21 submitting to one another out of reverence for Messiah.

Relations Between Wives, Husbands, Children, & Fathers

Ephesians 5:22-24 For wives, this means submit to your husbands as to the Lord. 23 For a husband is the head of his wife as Messiah also is the head of the assembly, being himself the savior of his body, the church. 24 But as the assembly submits to Messiah, so let the wives also submit to their own husbands in everything.

Ephesians 5:25-29 For Husbands, this means love your wives, even as Messiah also loved the assembly and gave up his life for her 26 to make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of God’s word, 27 that he might present the assembly without a spot or wrinkle or any other blemish. Instead, she will be holy and without fault. 28 In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as they love their own bodies. For a man who loves his wife actually shows love for himself. 29 No one hates his own body but feeds and cares for it, just as the Lord cares for the church.

Ephesians 5:30-32 And we are members of his{Yeshua's} body, of his flesh and bones. 31 As the Scriptures say, “A man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one flesh.”{ Genesis 2:24 } 32 This mystery is great, but it is an illustration of the way Messiah and the assembly are one.

Ephesians 5:33 So again I say, each man must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

Ephesians 6:1-3 Children, obey your parents because you belong to the Lord, for this is the right thing to do. 2 “Honor your father and mother.” This is the first commandment with a promise: 3 If you honor your father and mother, “things will go well for you, and you will have a long life on the earth.”

Ephesians 6:4 You fathers, don’t provoke your children to wrath, but nurture them in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

Ephesians 6:5-8 Servants, obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear. Serve them sincerely as you would serve Messiah, 6 not in the way of service only when eyes are on you, as men pleasers, but as servants of Messiah, doing the will of God from the heart. 7 Work with enthusiasm, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. 8 knowing that whatever good thing each one does, he will receive the same good again from the Lord, whether he is bound or free.

Ephesians 6:9 Masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Don’t threaten them; remember, you both have the same Master in heaven, and he has no favorites.

Put on the Armor of God

Ephesians 6:10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.

Ephesians 6:11-12 Put on the whole armor of God,{why?} that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.

Ephesians 6:13-14 Therefore put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having the utility belt of truth buckled around your waist, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness.

Ephesians 6:15 For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared.

Ephesians 6:16 above all, taking up the shield of faith, with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the devil.

Ephesians 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Ephesians 6:18 Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.

Conclusion

Ephesians 6:19-20 Pray for me, that utterance may be given to me in opening my mouth, to make known with boldness the mystery of the Good News{Gospel}. 20 I am in chains now, still preaching this message as God’s ambassador. So pray that I will keep on speaking boldly for him, as I should.

Ephesians 6:21-22 But that you also may know my affairs, how I am doing, Tychicus, the beloved brother and faithful servant in the Lord, will make known to you all things. 22 I have sent him to you for this very purpose, that you may know our state and that he may comfort your hearts.

Ephesians 6:23-24 Peace be with you, dear brothers and sisters, and may God the Father and the Lord Yeshua the Messiah give you love with faithfulness. 24 Grace be with all those who love our Lord Yeshua the Messiah with incorruptible love. Amen.
