Ten Whore-hating Horns
Revelation 17:16 And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire.
Well now, those ten horns didn't hate the whore at their beginning, and they still pay her homage today, but they certainly will hate her at the end, according to Revelation 17:16. But, let's start at the beginning of the story.
In chapter 2, Daniel reveals to King Nebuchadnezzar, not only what the the king dreamed, but also the meaning of his dream of the four great kingdoms. Let's look specifically at the forth kingdom, which we know as Rome:
Daniel 2:40-43 The fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron, because iron breaks in pieces and subdues all things; and as iron that crushes all these, shall it[the 4th kingdom] break in pieces and crush. 41 Whereas you saw the feet and toes, part of potters' clay, and part of iron, it[the 4th kingdom] shall be a divided kingdom; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, because you saw the iron mixed with miry clay. 42 As the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the [4th]kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken. 43 Whereas you saw the iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men; but they shall not cling to one another, even as iron does not mingle with clay.
Keep in mind that the feet had ten toes as Daniel gives us more detail of the forth kingdom(Rome), from a different perspective, in chapter 7, where the four kingdoms are here-described as " four great beasts came up from the sea"(Dan7:2-3), meaning they came up from a populous area(Rev17:15):
Daniel 7:7-26 After this I saw in the night visions, and behold a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth: it devoured and break in pieces, and stamped the residue with the feet of it: and it was diverse from all the beasts that were before it; and it had ten horns. 8 I considered the horns, and, behold, there came up among them another little horn, before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things... 20 And of the ten horns that were in his head, and of the other which came up, and before whom three fell; even of that horn that had eyes, and a mouth that spake very great things, whose look was more stout than his fellows. 21 I beheld, and the same horn made war with the saints, and prevailed against them; ... 24 And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings. 25 And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time. 26 But the judgment shall sit, and they(see Rev17:16) shall take away his[the little horn's (vs8,20,21,25)] dominion, to consume and to destroy it unto the end.
From History, we learn the fulfillment and why the 3 kingdoms(horns) where plucked up before the "little horn":
- As early as the beginning of the sixth century the bishops of Rome had become powerful enough to exert considerable of that influence at the imperial court which ere long exalted them to a station where they could command the kings of the earth. There was only one hindrance to their supremacy, -- the opposition of the Arian powers to the doctrines of the Catholics, especially to that of the Trinity. These opposing powers were rooted up, the Heruli in 493, the Vandals in 534, and the Ostrogoths in 538. See "Student's Gibbon," pp. 309-319
- "It is a remarkable fact, that the popes to this day wear a triple crown, -- a fact that exists in regard to no other monarchs. ... The papacy [is] well represented by the 'little horn.' ... In fact, this one power absorbed into itself three of these sovereignties." -- Barne's Notes on Daniel, p. 327.
- Those 3 "sovereignties" were mentioned in the previous quote => "the Heruli in 493, the Vandals in 534, and the Ostrogoths in 538". This was the fulfillment of Daniel 7:8,20,24.
- "The most remarkable was the little horn, which rose after the others, and is by Protestant commentators (and we think with good reason) explained of the ecclesiastical dominion of the pope or bishop of Rome." -- Cottage Bible.
- "In 533, Justinian entered upon his Vandal and Gothic wars. Wishing to secure the influence of the pope and the Catholic party, he issued that memorable letter which was to constitute the pope the head of all the churches, and from the carrying out of which, in 538 [when the last of the three Arian horns was plucked up], the period of papal supremacy is to be dated. And whoever will read the history of the African campaign, 533-534, and the Italian campaign, 534-538, will notice that the Catholics everywhere hailed as deliverers the army of Belisarius, the general of Justinian." -- Thoughts on Daniel and the Revelation, p. 136
- "The celebrated letter of Justinian to the pope in the year 533, not only recognized all previous privileges, but enlarging them, and entitling the pope and his church to many immunities and rights, which afterward gave origin to the pretensions displayed in the canon law." -- Gavazzi's Lectures, p. 66
- It is clearly evident, therefore, that just as soon as the last opposition to the papacy was removed, it became firmly seated by the famous letter of Justinian, -- that the bishop of Rome should be recognized as the head of the universal church and the corrector of heretics. The year 538 A.D. may be set down, then, as the time when the papacy became an established power.

Revelation speaks of the same ten horns on the Roman creatures:
Revelation 12:3,6,14 And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads... 6 And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days... 14 And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.
Revelation 13:1,5-7 And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea[interpretation in Rev17:15 ], having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy. ... 5 And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months. 6 And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven. 7 And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.
- a thousand two hundred and threescore days = 1260 days (Rev12:6)
- forty and two months = 42 months(Rev13:5); 42x30 = 1260 days
- a time, and times, and half a time = 3.5 years (Dan7:25; Rev12:14) = 1260 days
Revelation 17:3-18 So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. ... 7 And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns. ... 12 And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but they receive authority as kings, with the beast, for one hour{Greek: ὥρα, hora, an indefinite space of time. It appears that they reign during the same period of time as the beast} 13 These[ten kings] have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast. ...
Identity of the "ten horns"
-
"the ten horns ... are ten kings", strangely with no kingdoms(Vs12), at the time when the angel explained this to John. Do they have their kingdoms now? No. This happens just before Christ's 2nd coming...
-
Also strange that while these kings are represented as "horns" on the "scarlet coloured beast", "they give their power and authority unto the beast.", but only for one hour!(Vs12-13) Assuming that "one hour" is prophetic time, then this would still only be for 15 literal days!
-
The most absurd part of this prophesy is that the "scarlet coloured beast", along with its ten other kingdoms will apparently spend 15 days fighting against Jesus(the lamb), along with His army of angels and the saints, "called and chosen and faithful"(Vs14), who seem to be with Him at our Messiah's return. And, of course Jesus and His armies win the war!
-
Could it be that the last of the "seven kings" could be the second beast of Rev13, which is the USA? Considering the wording this prophecy, it makes sense to me that the USA, with help from 10 other nations could try to wage war with Jesus in outer space, while on His way to earth. In fact, I have heard that the US and at least one other country now has outer space war capabilities.
-
From a previous study, we know that the 2nd beast of Rev13 does represent the USA, which began coming into power in 1776, which seems to fit with the ascending "out of the bottomless pit{or abyss}". Are there other qualities of that USA-beast that match with the "scarlet coloured beast"? Yes, at least these three:
-
-
In Rev13:11, the USA was "coming up out of the earth", similar to the scarlet beast that "shall ascend out of the bottomless pit"{or abyss in 1776}.
-
In Rev17:8, it is said, "they that dwell on the earth shall wonder" after the "scarlet coloured beast". And, we read in Rev13:13 that the USA "doeth great wonders".
-
In Rev13:11 the USA "spake as a dragon", like the "great red dragon" of Rev12:8, which was likely the first of the "seven kings".
-
-
This prophecy also says that this beast will "go into perdition" - being destroyed. Does prophesy indicate that the USA will be destroyed? Yes. In a previous study, we determined that the 2nd beast of Rev13 is also the "false prophet". And, in the following text, we will see the final end of the "false prophet"(the USA):
-
Revelation 19:20 And the beast{the papacy} was taken, and with him the false prophet{the USA} that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.
-
-
So, when we consider the 2nd beast of Revelation 13 - the USA, we can easily understand how the ecclesiastical power of the papacy will be using it's image(the apostate Protestant "church") to control the civil powers of the USA, which will use it's laws to enforce the dogma of the papacy. Since we understand this, it makes good sense, to me, to understand the USA as the last of the "seven kings" of the "scarlet coloured beast".

Prophecy of the End of "the great whore" - Babylon
Revelation 17:15-18 And he{an angel} saith unto me{John}, The waters which thou sawest, where the harlot sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues. 16 And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the {the scarlet coloured} beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire. 17 For God hath put in their hearts to fulfill his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled. 18 And the woman which thou sawest is that great city{Babylon(evil church)}, which reigneth over the kings of the earth{the state - the civil powers}.
