Peter Wilson Coldham's 1989 "Child Apprentices in America from Christ's
Hospital, London, 1617-1778" says John was a merchant tailor of the Parish of
St. Sepulcher and that his 5 year old son, Humphrey Kent, was admitted to
Christ's Hospital on March 18, 1606/07. Christ's Hospital served legitimate,
fatherless children of freemen of the City of London. He was admitted 18 Feb
1599/1600 to the Merchant Taylors' Co., made free by Richard Wayte, his
Master, after being assigned first to John Ince.
