bullet  General Notes:

From Warren Ladd's book, p. 288:
"We think it is evident, though there is no positive proof, that this Joseph Ladd was a younger brother of Daniel Ladd, who came from London in the Mary and John in 1633. The reason for this belief is the fact that John Anthony, whose deed of land to Richard Tew in 1644 Joseph Ladd was a witness, took the oath of Supremacy and Allegiance to pass to New England in the Mary and John, Robert Sayres master, 24th of March, 1633, but "stayed over to oversee the chattle," and came in the Hercules, John Kidder master, which sailed a week later than the Mary and John, in which Daniel Ladd came. [See New England Historical and Genealogical Register, vol. 9, page 267.] John Anthony settled at Portsmouth. R. I. Joseph Ladd lived at Portsmouth, R. I. The inference is that Joseph Ladd, a minor, lived in the family of John Anthony, was a relative of Mr. Anthony or his wife, and went to Portsmouth with him."

Joseph was scheduled to sail on the Mary and John but instead sailed on the Hercules, which wailed on march 31, 1634, in order to look after the chattel owned by him and his brother Daniel.
