bullet  General Notes:

GEN: Phillippe Kellogg GEN: Phillippe KELLOGG - b. possibly at Debden, England. First appears in Bocking, Essex in 1583, and resided at Great Leighs from GEN: 1585. Probably the son of Thomas and grandson of Nicholas, of Debden, who married Florence HALL, daughter of William HALL. The GEN: marriage of Phillippe is not found, but his first recorded child was born in 1583. Evidence suggests the last five children GEN: listed below were of a second marriage. The listing of his children here may be incomplete. GEN: PHILLIPPE KELLOGG (H1), born 1560; probably son of Thomas and grandson of Nicholas, of Debden, was the first of the name in GEN: England, from whom the Kelloggs of the New World can, with complete certainty, trace their descent. He first appears in GEN: Bocking, Essex, a parish adjoining Braintree, 15 Sept. 1583, when his son, Thomas, was baptized. Two years later he was found GEN: in Great Leighs, where his son, Robert, was baptized in 1585. That the record of baptism of all of his children has not been GEN: found, is shown by the record of the burial of his daughter, Annis, in Great Leighs, 25 May, 1611. The registers of Great GEN: Leighs extend to 1558. The record of the baptism of Robert is the first time that the name of Kellogg appears in the registers GEN: of that parish. A search of the Court Rolls of Great Leighs fails to reveal the name of Kellogg. GEN: No record of his death has been found, and as the records of Great Leighs are quite full, it is probable that he did not die GEN: there. He may have removed to Braintree and had other children, but the records of Braintree extend no farther than 1660 and GEN: the earliest known date of a Kellogg in Braintree was in 1623, when Moses Woll mentioned Phillippe's son, Robert, in his will. GEN: Children. GEN: THOMAS), baptised at Bocking, Essex, 15 September, 1583; married (1) Annis Hare; (2) Widow Tabitha Hilles. GEN: ANNIS, (no record of baptism has been found), "Annis, daughter of Phillippe Kellogge," buried in Great Leighs, 25 May, 1611. GEN: ROBERT, baptised in Great Leighs, 14 November, 1585. In the will of Moses Woll, of Braintree, 23 January, 1623, he was GEN: bequethed a small sum. He returned to Braintree, where he bought of Mark, May, Edward and Thomas Stebbing all their right in GEN: the parcel of land, one and one-half acres, at Minche's Oak with a message, which he surrendered on the 22d day of May, 1632, GEN: to Martin Kellogg and his wife, Prudence. "Robert Kelluck" was buried in Braintree, 18 Jan., 1666. GEN: MARY, baptised in Great Leighs, 16 February, 1588; married there, 1 May, 1628, William Stotturne. GEN: PRUDENCE, bap. in Great Leighs, 20 March, 1592; burried there, 24 March, 1629. GEN: MARTYN, baptised in Great Leighs, 23 November, 1595; married Prudence daughter of John Bird, of Bishop's Stortford. GEN: NATHANIEL, b. ______; married Elizabeth _______; d. in New England. GEN: JOHN, b. _______. GEN: JANE, b. ________; married Thomas(?) Allison. GEN: RACHEL, b. ________; married Samuel Cave; died before 20 October, 1666, when Samuel Cave; of Braintree, made his will, GEN: mentioning his daughters, Rachel, the wife of John Parborow; Phoebe and Mary, and son, Nathaniel. GEN: These last four are included among the children of Phillippe, because Nathaniel Kellogg in his will mentioned his brother, GEN: John, and sisters, Jane Allison and Rachel Cave, all of Old England, and Martin's son, Joseph, as his cousin, which signified GEN: that Joseph was his nephew. Allison was a Braintree name at that time. Edward Stebbing, called "my dear friend," in the will GEN: of Nathaniel, was probably the same Edward who sold land in Braintree to Robert Kellogg as appears in the Manorial Court GEN: Rolls. From the fact that Nathaniel mentioned but one brother and two sisters in his will, it may be that the other children GEN: of Phillippe were the children of another wife. GEN: -
