Matthew 16:1 The Pharisees and Sadducees came, and testing him, asked him to show them a sign from heaven.
2 But he answered them, “Whenitisevening,yousay,‘Itwillbefairweather,fortheskyisred.’3Inthemorning,‘Itwillbefoulweathertoday,fortheskyisredandthreatening.’Hypocrites!Youknowhowtodiscerntheappearanceofthesky,butyoucan’tdiscernthesignsofthetimes!4Anevilandadulterousgenerationseeksafterasign,andtherewillbenosigngiventoit,exceptthesignoftheprophetJonah.” He left them and departed.
5 The disciples came to the other side and had forgotten to take bread.
6 Yeshua said to them, “TakeheedandbewareoftheyeastofthePhariseesandSadducees.”
Matthew 16:7 They reasoned among themselves, saying, “We brought no bread.”
Matthew 16:8 Yeshua, perceiving it, said, “Whydoyoureasonamongyourselves,youoflittlefaith,becauseyouhavebroughtnobread?9Don’tyouyetperceiveorrememberthefiveloavesforthefivethousand,andhowmanybasketsyoutookup,10orthesevenloavesforthefourthousand,andhowmanybasketsyoutookup?11Howisitthatyoudon’tperceivethatIdidn’tspeaktoyouconcerningbread?ButbewareoftheyeastofthePhariseesandSadducees.”
Matthew 16:12 Then they understood that he didn’t tell them to beware of the yeast of bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
Matthew 16:13 Now when Yeshua came into the parts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, “WhodomensaythatI,theSonofMan,am?”
Matthew 16:14 They said, “Some say Yochanan the Immerser, some, Elijah, and others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
Matthew 16:15 He said to them, “ButwhodoyousaythatIam?”
Matthew 16:16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”
Matthew 16:17 Yeshua answered him, “Blessedareyou,SimonBarJonah,forfleshandbloodhasnotrevealedthistoyou,butmyFatherwhoisinheaven.18IalsotellyouthatyouarePeter,{or, Hell}willnotprevailagainstit.19IwillgivetoyouthekeysoftheKingdomofHeaven,andwhateveryoubindonearthwillhavebeenboundinheaven;andwhateveryoureleaseonearthwillhavebeenreleasedinheaven.”20 Then he commanded the disciples that they should tell no one that he was Yeshua the Messiah.
Matthew 16:21 From that time, Yeshua began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders, chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and the third day be raised up.
Matthew 16:22 Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, saying, “Far be it from you, Lord! This will never be done to you.”
Matthew 16:23 But he turned and said to Peter, “Getbehindme,Satan!Youareastumblingblocktome, foryouarenotsettingyourmindonthethingsofGod,butonthethingsofmen.”
Matthew 16:24 Then Yeshua said to his disciples, “Ifanyonedesirestocomeafterme,lethimdenyhimself,takeuphiscross,andfollowme.25Forwhoeverdesirestosavehislifewillloseit,andwhoeverwilllosehislifeformysakewillfindit.26Forwhatwillitprofitamanifhegainsthewholeworldandforfeitshislife?Orwhatwillamangiveinexchangeforhislife?27FortheSonofManwillcomeinthegloryofhisFatherwithhisangels,andthenhewillrendertoeveryoneaccordingtohisdeeds.28MostcertainlyItellyou,therearesomestandingherewhowillinnowaytasteofdeathuntiltheyseetheSonofMancominginhisKingdom.”
