Luke 21:1 He looked up and saw the rich people who were putting their gifts into the treasury.
2 He saw a certain poor widow casting in two small brass coins.{literally, “two lepta.” 2 lepta was about 1% of a day’s wages for an agricultural laborer.}3 He said, “TrulyItellyou,thispoorwidowputinmorethanallofthem,4foralltheseputingiftsforGodfromtheirabundance,butshe,outofherpoverty,putinallthatshehadtoliveon.”
Luke 21:5 As some were talking about the temple and how it was decorated with beautiful stones and gifts, he said,
6“Asforthesethingswhichyousee,thedayswillcomeinwhichtherewillnotbelefthereonestoneonanotherthatwillnotbethrowndown.”
Luke 21:7 They asked him, “Rabbi, so when will these things be? What is the sign that these things are about to happen?”
Luke 21:8 He said, “Watchoutthatyoudon’tgetledastray,formanywillcomeinmyname,saying,‘Iamhe{or, I AM},’and,‘Thetimeisathand.’Thereforedon’tfollowthem.9Whenyouhearofwarsanddisturbances,don’tbeterrified,forthesethingsmusthappenfirst,buttheendwon’tcomeimmediately.”
Luke 21:10 Then he said to them, “Nationwillriseagainstnation,andkingdomagainstkingdom.11Therewillbegreatearthquakes,famines,andplaguesinvariousplaces.Therewillbeterrorsandgreatsignsfromheaven.12Butbeforeallthesethings,theywilllaytheirhandsonyouandwillpersecuteyou,deliveringyouuptosynagoguesandprisons,bringingyoubeforekingsandgovernorsformyname’ssake.13Itwillturnoutasatestimonyforyou.14Settleitthereforeinyourheartsnottomeditatebeforehandhowtoanswer,15forIwillgiveyouamouthandwisdomwhichallyouradversarieswillnotbeabletowithstandortocontradict.16Youwillbehandedoverevenbyparents,brothers,relatives,andfriends.Theywillcausesomeofyoutobeputtodeath.17Youwillbehatedbyallmenformyname’ssake.18Andnotahairofyourheadwillperish.
Luke 21:19“Byyourenduranceyouwillwinyourlives.
Luke 21:20“ButwhenyouseeJerusalemsurroundedbyarmies,thenknowthatitsdesolationisathand.21ThenletthosewhoareinJudeafleetothemountains.Letthosewhoareinthemiddleofherdepart.Letthosewhoareinthecountrynotentertherein.22Forthesearedaysofvengeance,thatallthingswhicharewrittenmaybefulfilled.23Woetothosewhoarepregnantandtothosewhonurseinfantsinthosedays!Fortherewillbegreatdistressinthelandandwrathtothispeople.24Theywillfallbytheedgeofthesword,andwillbeledcaptiveintoallthenations.JerusalemwillbetrampleddownbytheGentilesuntilthetimesoftheGentilesarefulfilled.
Luke 21:25“Therewillbesignsinthesun,moon,andstars;andontheearthanxietyofnations,inperplexityfortheroaringoftheseaandthewaves;26menfaintingforfearandforexpectationofthethingswhicharecomingontheworld,forthepowersoftheheavenswillbeshaken.27ThentheywillseetheSonofMancominginacloudwithpowerandgreatglory.28Butwhenthesethingsbegintohappen,lookupandliftupyourheads,becauseyourredemptionisnear.”
Luke 21:29 He told them a parable. “Seethefigtreeandallthetrees.30Whentheyarealreadybudding,youseeitandknowbyyourownselvesthatthesummerisalreadynear.31Evensoyoualso,whenyouseethesethingshappening,knowthatGod’sKingdomisnear.32MostcertainlyItellyou,thisgenerationwillnotpassawayuntilallthingsareaccomplished.33Heavenandearthwillpassaway,butmywordswillbynomeanspassaway.
Luke 21:34“Sobecareful,oryourheartswillbeloadeddownwithcarousing,drunkenness,andcaresofthislife,andthatdaywillcomeonyousuddenly.35Foritwillcomelikeasnareonallthosewhodwellonthesurfaceofalltheearth.36Thereforebewatchfulallthetime,prayingthatyoumaybecountedworthytoescapeallthesethingsthatwillhappen,andtostandbeforetheSonofMan.”
Luke 21:37 Every day Yeshua was teaching in the temple, and every night he would go out and spend the night on the mountain that is called Olivet.
38 All the people came early in the morning to him in the temple to hear him.
