2 Chronicles 32:1 After310 these things,1697 and the establishment571 thereof, Sennacherib5576 king4428 of Assyria804 came,935 and entered935 into Judah,3063 and encamped2583 against the fenced1219 cities,5892 and thought559 to win1234 them for himself.{Heb. to break them up}2 And when Hezekiah3169 saw7200 that Sennacherib5576 was come,935 and that he was purposed6440 to fight4421{Heb. his face was to war} against Jerusalem,33893 He took counsel3289 with his princes8269 and his mighty men1368 to stop5640 the waters4325 of the fountains5869 which were without2351 the city:5892 and they did help5826 him.
4 So there was gathered69082794 much7227 people5971 together,6908 who stopped5640 all the fountains,4599 and the brook5158 that ran7857{Heb. overflowed} through the midst8432 of the land,776 saying,559 Why should the kings4428 of Assyria804 come,935 and find4672 much7227 water?43255 Also he strengthened2388 himself, and built up1129 all the wall2346 that was broken,6555 and raised it up5927 to the towers,4026 and another312 wall2346 without,2351 and repaired2388 Millo4407in the city5892 of David,1732 and made6213 darts7973{Or, swords, or weapons} and shields4043 in abundance.72306 And he set5414 captains8269 of war4421 over the people,5971 and gathered them together6908 to him in the street7339 of the gate8179 of the city,5892 and spake1696 comfortably3824 to them,{Heb. he spake to their heart} saying,5597 Be strong2388 and courageous,553 be not afraid3372 nor dismayed2865 for6440 the king4428 of Assyria,804 nor for all the multitude1995 that is with him: for therebe more7227 with us than with him:
8 With him is an arm2220 of flesh;1320 but with us is the LORD3068 our God430 to help5826 us, and to fight3898 our battles.4421 And the people5971 rested5564{Heb. leaned} themselves upon the words1697 of Hezekiah3169 king4428 of Judah.3063
2 Chronicles 32:9 After310 this did Sennacherib5576 king4428 of Assyria804 send7971 his servants5650 to Jerusalem,3389 (but he himselflaidsiege against Lachish,3923 and all his power4475{Heb. dominion} with him,) unto Hezekiah3169 king4428 of Judah,3063 and unto all Judah3063 that were at Jerusalem,3389 saying,55910 Thus saith559 Sennacherib5576 king4428 of Assyria,804 Whereon do ye trust,982 that ye abide3427 in the siege4692{Or, in the strong hold} in Jerusalem?338911 Doth not Hezekiah3169 persuade5496 you to give5414 over yourselves to die4191 by famine7458 and by thirst,6772 saying,559 The LORD3068 our God430 shall deliver5337 us out of the hand3709 of the king4428 of Assyria?80412 Hath not the same Hezekiah3169 taken away5493 his high places1116 and his altars,4196 and commanded559 Judah3063 and Jerusalem,3389 saying,559 Ye shall worship7812 before6440 one259 altar,4196 and burn incense6999 upon it?
13 Know3045 ye not what I and my fathers1 have done6213 unto all the people5971 of other lands?776 were the gods430 of the nations1471 of those lands776 any ways3201 able3201 to deliver5337 their lands776 out of mine hand?302714 Who wasthere among all the gods430 of those nations1471 that my fathers1 utterly destroyed,2763 that could3201 deliver5337 his people5971 out of mine hand,3027 that your God430 should be able3201 to deliver5337 you out of mine hand?302715 Now therefore let not3808 Hezekiah2396 deceive5377 you, nor persuade5496 you on this manner, neither yet believe539 him: for no god433 of any nation1471 or kingdom4467 was able3201 to deliver5337 his people5971 out of mine hand,3027 and out of the hand3027 of my fathers:1 how much less shall your God430 deliver5337 you out of mine hand?302716 And his servants5650 spake1696 yet more against the LORD3068 God,430 and against his servant5650 Hezekiah.316917 He wrote3789 also letters5612 to rail2778 on the LORD3068 God430 of Israel,3478 and to speak559 against him, saying,559 As the gods430 of the nations1471 of other lands776 have not delivered5337 their people5971 out of mine hand,3027 so shall not the God430 of Hezekiah3169 deliver5337 his people5971 out of mine hand.302718 Then they cried7121 with a loud1419 voice6963 in the Jews' speech3066 unto the people5971 of Jerusalem3389 that were on the wall,2346 to affright3372 them, and to trouble926 them; that they might take3920 the city.589219 And they spake1696 against5921 the God430 of Jerusalem,3389 as against the gods430 of the people5971 of the earth,776whichwere the work4639 of the hands3027 of man.12020 And for this cause Hezekiah3169 the king,4428 and the prophet5030 Isaiah3470 the son1121 of Amoz,531 prayed6419 and cried2199 to heaven.8064
2 Chronicles 32:21 And the LORD3068 sent7971 an angel,4397 which cut off3582 all the mighty men1368 of valour,2428 and the leaders5057 and captains8269 in the camp4264 of the king4428 of Assyria.804 So he returned7725 with shame1322 of face6440 to his own land.776 And when he was come935 into the house1004 of his god,430 they that came forth3329 of his own bowels4578 slew5307 him{Heb. made him fall} there with the sword.271922 Thus the LORD3068 saved3467 Hezekiah3169 and the inhabitants3427 of Jerusalem3389 from the hand3027 of Sennacherib5576 the king4428 of Assyria,804 and from the hand3027 of all other, and guided5095 them on every side.543923 And many7227 brought935 gifts4503 unto the LORD3068 to Jerusalem,3389 and presents4030{Heb. precious things} to Hezekiah3169 king4428 of Judah:3063 so that he was magnified5375 in the sight5869 of all nations1471 from thenceforth.310
2 Chronicles 32:24 In those days3117 Hezekiah3169 was sick2470 to the death,4191 and prayed6419 unto the LORD:3068 and he spake559 unto him, and he gave5414 him a sign.4159{Or, wrought a miracle for him}25 But Hezekiah3169 rendered not again7725 according to the benefit1576done unto him; for his heart3820 was lifted up:1361 therefore there was wrath7110 upon him, and upon Judah3063 and Jerusalem.338926 Notwithstanding Hezekiah3169 humbled3665 himself for the pride1363{Heb. the lifting up} of his heart,3820both he and the inhabitants3427 of Jerusalem,3389 so that the wrath7110 of the LORD3068 came935 not upon them in the days3117 of Hezekiah.3169

2 Chronicles 32:32 Now the rest3499 of the acts1697 of Hezekiah,3169 and his goodness,2617{Heb. kindnesses} behold, they are written3789 in the vision2377 of Isaiah3470 the prophet,5030 the son1121 of Amoz,531and in the book5612 of the kings4428 of Judah3063 and Israel.347833 And Hezekiah3169 slept7901 with his fathers,1 and they buried6912 him in the chiefest4608{Or, highest} of the sepulchres6913 of the sons1121 of David:1732 and all Judah3063 and the inhabitants3427 of Jerusalem3389 did him6213 honour3519 at his death.4194 And Manasseh4519 his son1121 reigned4427 in his stead.
