Five other Hackworths from Bedford County who were probably Thomas' brothers saw some form of service during the Revolutionary period. Augustine (1746-1847), served with his brother William in Lord
Dunmore's War, and served in 1789 in an expedition against the Cherokees and fought them in a battle at Lookout Mountain.

William (c.1749-1831) fought Indians on the frontier, helped run the colonial governor out of Virginia in 1776 and defended the Virginia capital at Williamsburg, fought in some of the notable battles of the Revolution, including Trenton, Monmouth and Brandywine; he endured the winter encampments at Morristown, Valley Forge and Bound Brook, and survived to return to
farm in Bedford County, where the "old soldier" raised his family and died in 1831 at the ripe old age of eighty-two.
