GEN: Caption in the army, Revolutionary War. Enlisted, 1776, as a soldier and was engaged in the battle of Oriskany. He was in GEN: Sullivan's expedition and commanded a company in the warfare against the Indians and Tories to the close of the war. He was a GEN: pensioner when he died in Erie County, Pennsylvania.
James married Rachel Lawrence.
James next married Mary Morris, daughter of Daniel Morris and Elizabeth Smith, in 1779. (Mary Morris was born about 1760 and died in 1831.)
