GEN: He acceded to the throne in 1035. GEN: He entered into hostilities eith Emperor Otho II and acquired from that mon arch Valenciennes and the Isles of Zealand. He GEN: subsequently further increased his territories by another rich accession, t hat of the citadel of Ghent.
Baldwin married Adela Alix, daughter of Robert II King Of France and Constance Tailiefer. (Adela Alix was born in 992 and died in 1071.)
