General Notes: GEN: (*)Capt. Daniel Webster was great-grand-son of John Webster, one of the first settlers of Hartford, Conn., and one of the early GEN: Governors of the Colony of Connecticut,--and after 1659, of Hadley, Mass., (where he died,) in the line of his son Robert GEN: Webster, and grandfather of the late Noah Webster, LL. D. Capt. Daniel Webster aforesaid was twice married. 1. To Mirriam GEN: Kellogg, widow of Abraham Kellogg, and daughter of Noah Cooke, of Northampton, Mass., and of Sarah his wife, who, as appears GEN: to me, was daughter of Joseph Nash, one of the early settlers of Hartford, about 1719. She was born September 30, 1690. Abram GEN: Kellogg died soon after his marriage to Miss Cooke, leaving no issue. GEN: Noah Cooke was born June 14, 1657, and was son of Capt. Aaron Cooke, who came from England to Dorchester, Mass., in 1630, and GEN: removed to Windsor, Conn., in 1635 or 1636; to Northampton about 1660. After that he lived some years in Westfield, Mass., but GEN: returned to Northampton, where he died September 5, 1690, aged 80. Capt. Cooke married first, a daughter of Thomas Ford, of GEN: Windsor, and subsequently a daughter of Nicholas Denslow, and after her death, Elizabeth Nash, and after her death, Rebecca GEN: Smith, widow of Lieut. Philip Smith, of Hadley, Mass., deceased, and daughter of Nathaniel Foote, one of the first settlers of GEN: Wethersfield, Conn. Lieut. Smith died in 1684. Mather, in his Magnalia, says he was "murdered with an hideous witchcraft." The GEN: Denslow woman was the mother of Noah Cooke. The family name of the second wife of Capt. Daniel Webster, is unknown. Her GEN: Christian name was Hannah; she survived him, and died October 17, 1776. Daniel Webster died in 1765. His children, whose names GEN: and times of birth follow, were by his first wife. GEN: Daniel, born February 16, 1720. GEN: Noah, born March 25, 1722. He was the father of Noah Webster, Esq., who was born October 16, 1758. GEN: Zephaniah, born June 1, 1724. GEN: Abraham, born January 17, 1727. GEN: Mirriam, born October 21, 1729. GEN: Daniel, born September 4, 1731. GEN: Elihu, born November 1, 1733. Died unmarried. Daniel married Miriam Cook, daughter of Noah Cook and Sarah Nash. (Miriam Cook was born on 30 Sep 1690.) Daniel next married Hannah Bird. |
